UTM SURVEYS
UTM surveys are carried out to ensure that vessel strength is retained. Check internal condition and remaining thickness of a vessel. Ascertain all possible areas of concern in terms of thickness measurement and close up requirements for all types of vessels.
Thickness measurements can be obtained when the vessel is in or out of operation (pre-docking or dry-docking) and is performed by qualified inspectors. Preparation of accurate and reliable report based on information from measurements, which is further used for designing and budgeting repair works.
CLASS RENEWAL SURVEYS
A special or renewal survey of a ship is a mandatory inspection which must be carried out every 5 years. It includes extensive Ultrasonic Thickness examinations of a vessels structural components to verify that it meets the standards set by the relevant classification society. Sparta Testing Services Ltd carry out UTM surveys according to class rules and the attending surveyor’s requests. A draft report with measurements taken is provided each day for review by the client and class surveyor. Up on completion of the survey, a final class format report shall be produced to demonstrate diminution and condition of the vessel. Our technicians are also trained to cover the requirements of Enhanced Survey Programs (ESP).
DPI
Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) is used to locate surface breaking flaws such as cracks, porosity, laps, seams and other surface discontinuities. This inspection method can be applied to both ferrous and non-ferrous materials and all non-porous materials. This application can also be used to inspect propeller blades, tail shafts and stainless-steel welds.
MPI
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is one of the most widely used non-destructive inspection methods for locating surface or near-surface defects or flaws in ferromagnetic materials such as welds, propeller shafts and engine components
CAP SURVEYS
An assessment which demonstrates the operational reliability of ships, regardless of their age and provides the vessel owner with an independent evaluation of the condition of their ship and a certificate and report to show to third parties as evidence. Sparta Testing Services Ltd can assist with the structural element of CAP surveys along side the relevant associated classification society.
GAS FREE CERTIFICATION
Sparta testing services is a nationwide supplier of confined space gas testing based in Hull East Yorkshire. Predominantly serving the marine industry, we perform air quality assessments of confined spaces to ensure the atmosphere is adequate for safe entry.
To assist companies in this regard, Sparta Testing Services Ltd provides a fully warranted, gas-free certification service for most confined spaces.
